In July 2, 1964, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It outlawed the segregation between African Americans and Whites. It also outlawed the discrimination of any African American. -
Martin Luther King Jr.'s Death
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was killed on April 4, 1968 on the second floor balcony in the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was killed by a sniper named James Earl Ray. When news of his death spread, many riots sprung up in hundreds of cities across America. Dr. King was given a funeral in his hometown Atlanta, Georgia, while James was given a ninety-nine year jail sentence. -
The Moon Landing
On July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 began its mission to land on the moon. Then in July 20, Apollo 11 successfully landed on the moon with Neil Armstrong being the first man on the moon. This brought hope in Americans, because it signaled the American victory over the Soviet Union in the Space Race.
