    The Pilgrims traveled to the New World on the Mayflower. This compact was the first governing document of Plymouth Colony.
  • King Phillip's War

    King Phillip's War marked the last major effort by the Native Americans of Southern New England to drive out the English settlers.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Bacon's Rebellion was an armed rebellion led by Nathaniel Bacon in Virginia against the rule of Governor William Berkeley. The members of the rebellion were mostly angry former indentured servants who resented planters in East Virginia.
  • Pueblo Revolt

    The Pueblo Revolt occurred in present-day New Mexico. The Spanish occupied the Pueblo region and set up a forced-labor system known as the encomienda system. In addition, they attempted to convert the Pueblos to Christianity. They also killed the Pueblo holy men. As a result, Pope, a Pueblo man, led a revolt against the Spanish.
  • Great Awakening

    The First Great Awakening was a movement of religious revival. After the Enlightenment, which stressed the use of human logic and reason, faith was challenged in much of the world. This Enlightenment movement, which was headed by philosophers such as John Locke, led to a decrease in faith.
  • Stono Rebellion

    The Stono Rebellion was a slave rebellion that began on September 9, 1739 in South Carolina. It was the largest slave uprising in the British mainland colonies. Over 40 whites were killed. In addition, 44 blacks were killed.
  • Albany Congress

    The Albany Congress was a meeting in the spring of 1754 attended by native leaders, colonial officials, and representatives from 7 of the British colonies. They discusses two important issues at the meeting: the Iroquois' alliance and the Albany Plan of Union. During this time, war with France was imminent.
  • French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War was also known as the Seven Year's War. It was a long struggle between France and Britain. The French expanded into the Ohio River Valley. This led to repeated conflict with the British colonies, eventually resulting in a declaration of war. This was significant because it marked the end of salutary neglect of the British colonies. This also added to tensions between the colonists and British officials.
