Project Purple 2 is underway.
Project Purple 2 was the name given to the project Apple underwent in developing the iPhone. The project originally began when Steve Jobs (then Apple CEO) decided to try to make a multi-touch screen computer (essentially a tablet) which led him to conceive the second idea of an iPhone! -
The first iPhone is released!
Now considered obselete and vintage, the original iPhone was named 'Invention of the Year' by Time magazine in the year it was released (2007).
The iPhone is the world's most hyped consumer product. -
iPhone 3G is released!
Apple boasted that this phone would be 'twice as fast at half the price' (Jobs, 2008). -
The iPhone 3GS is released today!

The launch of the iPhone 4 takes place!
This is the fourth generation of the iPhone, succeeding the 3GS, the 3G and the original iPhone. -
The iPhone 4S is released.
The iPhone 4S was announced on the 4th of October, with the Apple founder, Steve Jobs, sadly passing away the following day. Only 9 days later, the 4S was officially released.
The 4S was the first iPhone which had the Siri function. -
iPhone 5 is released in the first set of countries.

For the first time a fingerprint identity sensor is the home button is a feature (in both makes of the phone). -
Apple sells the 500 millionth iPhone!
The exact date on this milestone is not known, but in a three week period before this date, the 500 millionth iPhone was sold somewhere in the world.
There was no fanfare by Apple after this milestone, as there wasn't for other major milestones the company reaches (e.g. the 30th Anniversary of the Mac computer). -
