Mines and Works Act (1911)
Also known as the color bar, blacks were not allowed to hold certain positions that whites could such as trade unions, government practices, and legistlation.

Natives Land Act (1913)
Whites could not buy land from natives, and natives could not buy land from whites. This essentially led to scarcity of land for Africans to purchase. This forced cheap labor.

Immorality Act (1927)
Prohibited sexual intercourse outside of marriage between Europeans and Natives (whites and blacks). The punishment was 5 years of prison for men, and 4 years for women.

Representation of Natives Act (1935)
This act lessened the rights that blacks already did not have. They were not allowed to run for office, and other legislation qualifications were removed and only preserved for whites. They also were not allowed to vote, and four white men were voted for as the senate.

Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act (1949)
Prohibited marriages between whites and non-whites. It also required everyone to register as one of four races, so that they would be easily identified.

Group Areas Act (1950)
Non-whites could not live in areas where white people lived. This led to non-whites having pass laws which basically said that they had to carry their identification on them at all times, this also increased the rate of poverty.

Bantu Authorities Act (1951)
Established regional and territorial authorities for each ethnic groups. This essentially became the leadership positions for Africans in each of their "reserves". However leaders who did not agree or cooperate were met with harsh consequences and punishments.

Bantu Education Act (1953)
Enforcing racially separated schools, for schools of non-white children, the teachers could not be white either, and they must find a teacher who is also non-white, which was difficult to do.

Natives Resettlement Act (1954)
The government was able to remove Africans from any area within the districts of Johannesburg. This also included sophiatowns, where there were police placed for forced removals.

Bantu Homelands Citizenship Act (1970)
The government tried to divide different parts of South Africa into different states (homelands) for blacks to reside. They were then put into different ethnic groups that would decide where they were to live.
