    Allowed select blacks and colored persons to go out of designated residential areas in order to provide labor for mines.
  • Black Land Act No 27

    Black Land Act No 27
    This law raised legislation that prohibited Africans from owning or renting land outside of the designated reserves. Blacks were given pass books that allowed passage outside of the designated black lands.
  • Admission of Persons to the Union Regulation Act No 22

    Admission of Persons to the Union Regulation Act No 22
    Implemented the need for permission for Indians to travel from one province to another. Kind of like that precursor to the pass book laws.
  • Native Urban Areas Act No 21

    Native Urban Areas Act No 21
    Local authority leaders were responsible for governing the blacks in their respective areas. Divided country into prescribed and non prescribed areas and strictly controlled the movement.
  • Industrial Conciliation Act No 11

    Industrial Conciliation Act No 11
    Prohibited the formation of black trade unions. Provided for job reservation. It was the beginning of one of many privileges given to whites and not blacks.
  • Immorality Act No 5

    Immorality Act No 5
    Prohibited the non-married relationships between white and blacks. This continued to grow greater difference between the white and blacks and subjugated the blacks even more.
  • Representation of Blacks Act No 12

    Representation of Blacks Act No 12
    Removed black voters from the general roll and implemented them into a separate roll. White senators were appointed to be in charge of black voters on the roll.
  • Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act No 55

    Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act No 55
    Extension of the Immorality Act to keep blacks and whites from ever marrying. Continued the extreme segregation of white and blacks.
  • Population Registration Act No 30

    Population Registration Act No 30
    Required the identification and registration of blacks, asians, colored, or whites from birth. More rigid than previous identification acts, and allowed greater subjugation of black and colored people.
  • Black Education Act No 47

    Black Education Act No 47
    Implemented the segregation of black education from whites. Laid foundation for the start of the Bantu Education.
