  • Black (Native) Administration Act No. 38

    This is specifically observant of section 5.1B of the law. This portion of the legislation appointed the government, or the minister more specifically, with the ability to require black Africans to move without any prior notice so long as he deemed it in the interest of the public good.
  • Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act No. 55

    This piece of legislation prohibited marriage, and relationships in general, between white citizens and other racial groups, which included colored and black Africans.
  • Group Areas Act No. 41

    This piece of legislation required that each portion of land be declared for use exclusively by a specific racial group, such as white citizens or black Africans.
  • Black Act No. 67

    This piece of legislation required that black Africans, specifically men and women over the age of sixteen, must carry a pass book specifying the urban areas they were allowed to visit and for what length of time they may stay. A similar law had been in effect from province to province earlier, but this law created a uniform policy throughout the nation.
  • Reservation of Separate Amenities Act No. 49

    This piece of legislation all public facilities, including public transportation services, be reserved for use by only specified racial groups.
  • Criminal Law Amendment Act No. 8

    After recently entering into a state of emergency in response to the ANC's civil disobedience campaign, the piece of legislation made civil disobedience punishable with a three year jail sentence.
  • Black Education Act No. 47

    This piece of legislation required the segregation of racial groups, specifically of black Africans, in public education.
  • Unlawful Organizations Act No. 34

    This piece of legislation stated that organizations (supposedly) threatening public order or the safety of the public, such as the ANC and PAC, are unlawful.
  • Environmental Planning Act No. 88

    This piece of legislation created restrictions on the amount of black African who may be employed in the manufacturing industry in the larger industrial areas.
  • Black Affairs Administration Act No. 45

    This piece of legislation allowed for black African self-government in townships.
