Blacks were unable to register as members of trade unions. Therefor Black trade unions could not exist. This is significant because blacks are unable to meet and unionize, which is a basic right in the US. -
Wage Act
created fixed minimum wage. Whites were given skilled jobs so the minimum wage for them was higher. This is extremely important because whites were able to make more money off the bat than colored people. -
Mixed Marriages Act
People who were white were forbidden to marry a person of another race. This is significant because it highlighted to what extent they though whites were better -
Population Registration Act
Classified all South Africans as black, colored, or Asian. This is significant because it showed the separation and acknowledgment of different races. -
Group Areas Act
Created separate living areas for each race. This made it so the whites owned 80% of the land. -
Influx Control Laws
Blacks were unable to be within a white area for more than 72 hours. they were also unable to live in a black township unless they had a job in a white house/buisness. -
Abolition of Passes Act
Blacks had to carry Passbooks. These contained all their personal details. They were required to carry these when moving through different towns and cities, -
Resettlement of Natives Act
Black townships, that were in the way of the way when expanding white cities, were demolished. One of the most inflammatory situations was the destroying of Sophia Town. -
Seperate Representation of Votes Act
Colored people in Cape Town were unable to vote with whites. They were to vote for 4 representatives in the House of Assembly. This event is significant because whites wanted to slowly take their right to vote away so they had no control of the government,
