With their aim to liberate the land in which Christ's cross had once stood, a great army under the leadership of Godfrey of Bouillon traveled to Jerusalem and besieged the town. Eventually took it over and massacred all the Muslims. Because of these Crusades the Christians discovered Arab culture and many other important ideas. -

Students from countries far and wide were coming in thousands to this University where they studied and argued a great deal over the opinions of Aristotle and other philosophers, and how these might or might not agree with what was written in the Bible. Creates more ideas towards humanism and shifts beliefs away from believing in divine powers. -

Christopher Columbus accidentally discovers the Americas. Spaniards travel to the New World in search of gold. Very greedy and cruel towards the inhabitants and claimed they were doing everything for Christendom. -

95 Theses
During this time the church made the faithful pay for the forgiveness of their sins, called it 'selling indulgences'. Martin Luther nailed a poster to the doors of the church on which he had written 95 theses denouncing the selling of indulgences. Believed the only thing that could be done to atone for your sins was to have faith in God. Luther started to have followers who started to revolt against the Church
