Anthony Johnson Gains Land
In 1645 Anthony Johnson gained land in Northampton County, Virginia. This showed that he was creating a place for himself in the new English dominated society. Owning land meant he didn't have to rely on others for food and other basic things he could make a living on his own. He could now own cattle, farm crops, and live as he pleased. -
Anthony Wins His Slave Back From English Man
Anthony won his slave back from an English man after he had been taken. The slave said his serving time was up and he was to be set free. This was a huge victory in any Africans life because in a place dominated by the English an African had won in court. The slave was returned to Anthony and continued working the rest of his period.
