A ship where the slaves would come in. The conditions were harsh and some slaves would end up dieing in the trip. This is the year slaves first came to the US. -

Slaves would be sold and white slave owners would bid for a slave and buy them. -

The telegraph was invented in 1809 by a man named Samuel Soemmering. This invention helped and benifited both south and north. It provided easy comunication. -
The First Great Migration
The migration was from 1816-1819. The populations of the contries grew from 450 to almost 4,000. The people broght lots of disesses. -
Cult of Domesticity
Woman would have limits and could not really do anything. They would teach there children and would have to stay at home. -
Temperance Movement
Woman were wanting to ban alcohol because there hasbands would get drunk and they would hit their families and would waste their money on alcohol. -
Frederick Douglass
He was an abolitionist. He watched his mother get wipped and get beat up by his master. He ended up being a free slave. -
Irish Imigration
Irish people came to THe US expecting better living conditions. Once they arrived the americans laughed at them and they didnt have many rights. -
Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman helped slaves escape and be free from slavery. She would use a route know as the Underground Railroad. -
The Compromise of 1850
The Fugitive Slave Act was amended and the slave trade in Washington D.C. was abolished. Five laws passed in September of 1850 that dealt with slavery. It impacted the South because they owned more slaves due to all of the crops the south had. -
The Elevator
The elevator helped bring material up the floors so that the buldings would be tall and not long.
