Hitler demanded 10 things from Schussnigg- one of these was that a Nazi was made Minister of the Interior. this would have given Germany power over the Austrain police force. Schusnigg decided that instead he would hold a plescibite to see whether the Austrian people wanted a free Austria or whether they wanted to coalate with Germany. -

Hitler hears of Schussnigg's plecibite and hits the roof. He gives Schussnigg an ultimatum- resign or the Nazis take Austria by force! -
