    The Trojan war was a war in 12th century.The war started because the queen of Sparta was captured by a Trojan prince. There are some epics (large poems about special moment in history.) found about the Trojan war. These poems were written by a Roman poet named, Virgil.

    Ancient Olympic Games

    Ancient Olympic Games
    The ancient Olympic games were usually part of a religious festival in honor of Zeus. The games were held in Olympia. The Greeks that came to the Sanctuary of Zeus at Olympia shared the same religious beliefs and spoke the same language. The athletes were all male citizens of the city-states from every corner of the Greek world, coming from as far away as Iberia in the west and the Black Sea in the east.

    In ancient Greece theater became a big thing, for example, the Dionysus Theater is a theater built at the foot of the Athenian Acropolis. The Dionysus theater was dedicated to the Greek god, Dionysus. They used it for a festival that included plays, and parties. The theater could sat 17,000 people.

    The Persians tried to conquer Greece 3 times but failed. The Persian Empire wanted revenge after the Athenians helped one of their colonies residing in the Persian Empire,specifically in Anatolia, rebel against Persian rule. Darius put down the revolt and vowed to defeat Athens. The Battle of Marathon which was a battle won by the Greeks using the Phalanx formation to fight. After the victory Pheidippides ran 26 miles to inform Athens of the victory. (499-449 BCE)

    The Parthenon was a major accomplishment built in the mod 5th century BCE. This temple was dedicated to the Greek goddess, Athena. The temple uses the simple Doric style of columns. the Parthenon was built by the architects Ictinus and Callicrates under the supervision of the sculptor Phidias.(432 BCE)

    Athens and Sparta were both powerful Greek city-states. They had fought in the Greco-Persian wars between 499-449 BCE. Athens grew more wealthy and powerful and tensions grew, escalating into nearly three decades of war. After fighting for this long Sparta comes out victorious. Athens had been left bankrupt, tired and demoralized. After this war neither city-state had regained the military strength they had once had.

    Alexander the great was born in Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia. Alexander the great started to take rule in 331 BCE. Alexander was tutored by Aristotle at the age of 16 Alexander become King because he inherited it from his father. He conquered places through Asia and northeast Africa. Alexander then died in 323Bc.

    In 146 BC, the Romans defeated the Greeks in the battle of Corinth. The Greeks fell because they were not as united due to the geography of Greece. Another reason Greece fell to the Romans is because Rome had a very well planned strategy. The third reason they fell to the Romans because Greece relied heavily on mercenaries. These soldiers were not as smart and strong.
