    In the city of Athens, Greece a man by the name of Cleisthenes was appointed to improve Athens government and laws. He created a new form of government which is now known as a Democracy.

    A group of Greek cities off the coast of Asia Minor was conquered by Persia. These cities combined were also referred to as Ionia and were self-governed. When Persia attacked, other Greek countries were not able to provide military support.

    Just north of Athens, a Persian invasion force came to attack Greece. Miltiades, a Greek general created a plan to defeat Persia. Greece formed an equal line and faced Persia at a dead run. Thousands of Persians lost there lives, and Greece won.

    Sparta was afraid of Athens' power constantly growing. Athens ruled many other Greek cities and Sparta was jealous. The war began when Plataea, a partner of Athens, received a suprise attack for Thebens.

    In Athens, a man named Plato founded the first European university. It had many different courses such as astronomy, biology, mathematics, political theory, and philosophy. Plato's goal was to provide a place for thinkers to learn more about goverenment and how they could change theirs for the better.

    He was a prize student of Plato. Long after Plato's death he began teaching you Alexander. He taught him for four years. When he finished teaching Alexander he returned to Athens to establish his school of philosophy.
