    Before the 8th century BCE Greek city states were ruled in monarchies. They were run by a group of nobles and a king, the nobles were weathly and created a group called the Areopahus. Later in time this group became and oligarchy.

    Sparta develops the first code of Greek written law to govern its military city-state. Before this there were no records of Athens having any writtenlaws. Laws today are based on these first laws, allowing us to have freedom and equality and limit us to taking part in crime.

    The first Olympic games took place in Olympia, Ancient Greece and it honoured the God, Zeus. This event is important because it has influenced the society to continue on with the tradition of holding this event every four years, as well as becoming a major event worldwide.

    The code was written by Solon and it was his third great contibution to athens. The laws were written in blood, and included some very extreme punishments. Apparently, death was almost the only punishment for any criminal act. Also the laws permitted enslavement for debt.

    Solon is now the only ruler of Athens and makes changes to the governement. He changed the way the people of Athens lived by freeing many slaves, and allowing the lower class people have a say in the decisions made by the governement.

    This event took place in Asia Minor and is important because later on in mid-sixth century BCE, the Lydians and their king took control over the Greek city-states along the coast of Asia Minor, thus having complete control over the previous controllers, the Lydians.

    Cleisthenes creates a set of laws to explain the power of the government, and allows freedom of speech for all greek citizens. This was important because who knows when people would have recieved what we look at as a basic right today.

    The battle took place in Marathon, Greece and it involved the citizens of Athens and the Persians. This was an important event because it was the first time the Greeks had ever beat the Persians therefore giving them hope for the future knowing that it is possible for them to defeat the Persians.

    Hippocrates was the first man to study medicine, and during this time period he taught people the meaning of medicine and that most disesases were from natural causes. To this day Doctors will still look back at the Hippocratic Oath for refeerence.

    The Parthenon is located in Athens and the architects for the building were, Phidias, Ictinus, and Callicrates. It was the most important temple of Ancient Greek religion,is a monumental building to this day and is well known world-wide.

    This war was between the Peloponnesian league and the Athenian empire, it took place in Ancient Greece and Sicily.

    The Platonic Academy was located in Aristotle, Athens and was founded by Platos. This was important because this was possibly the first university school to ever be started.
