    Persian Wars

    The significance of the Persian Wars was that the Persian Empire tried to conquer tiny Greece and failed three times. The Persians wanted revenge after the Athenians helped one of their colonies rebel against the Persian Empire. The three battles were fought around or on the Greek mainland. The Spartans united with the Athenians to beat the Persians.
  • Period: 479 BCE to 431 BCE

    Golden Age of Athens

    After the Persian wars Athens became the Leader of the Delian League. They became wealthy and powerful through collecting taxes from other city-states in return for protection from Athens. Pericles was the leader of Athens at this time. The city used this wealth to beautify itself with architecture and culture. This time of prosperity was known as Athens Golden Age. The significance of the Golden Age of Athens was that it used its money to advance technology and the arts.
  • Period: 431 BCE to 401 BCE

    Peloponnesian War

    The significance of the Peloponnesian was that it involved two powerful city-states against each other, eventually weakening themselves so much that they both get destroyed after the war. Sparta fought Athens in the Peloponnesian War. Fighting happened around the Greek mainland. The war started because members of the Peloponnesian League attacked Athens for being to greedy.

    Conquering Greece

    The significance of the conquering Greece was that Alexander the Great now had the biggest empire up too that point in history. Alexander the Great was made king at age 20. He was taught by Aristotle and was a well trained military officer.
