  • 276 BCE

    Erastosthenes

(276-195 BC) He used the sun to measure the size of the round earth, and showed people that there was no plausible way that the Earth would even be flat. His measurement of 24660 Miles was only 211 miles off the true measurement. Importance being that it opened peoples mind to a round Earth.
  • 90

    Claudius Ptolemy

(90-168 AD) He set up the model of the solar system that had the sun and stars and other planets revolving around the earth. Many people believed his theory for hundreds of years to come until he was proven wrong. He also published the Almagest that showed the movements of the planets, and people still use his names of constellations to this day.
  • 1543

    Nicolaus Copernicus

(1473-1543) He proposed that the earth revolved around the sun instead of the sun revolving around the earth. It changed the way that ALL scientists viewed the solar system, and his model is still used today to show how planets revolve around the sun, along with the Earth, at least when his things became credited enough to have others listen to him.
  • Tycho Brahe

(1546-1601) He measured to one minute of arc and in 1572 showed that a new star was further away than the moon, and it was perfect and unchanging, and his things were so important because it made accurate observations of the stars and planets that hadn’t been done before.
  • Johannes Kepler

(1571-1630) He found the three laws of planetary motion, and it ended up helping Isaac Newton in establishing universal gravitation and then showed everyone that planets moved in Ellipses and not perfect circles and proved that the sun was in one stable position.
  • Sir Isaac Newton

(1643-1727) He invented calculus, investigated optics, mechanics, experimental chemistry, alchemy, and theology. He created newtons laws, which helped show that gravity kept things on the earth and kept the moon in a perfect orbit around the Earth.
  • Albert Einstein

(1879-1955) He suggested that laws of physics were the same across the universe, which made all scientists question if the things that they had been learning were wrong or just weird. He also said that space and time are linked, and it is distorted by gravity, which also helped scientists explain light years and so on.
