    Claudius Ptolemy

Set up a model of the solar system in Earth was the center but it turned out to be wrong. This is important because if he would not have set up a model of the solar system, then we would never know if Earth was the center or not.

    Eratosthenes

Used the sun to measure the size of the round Earth. it was important because there were no other ways to do so.
  • 1543

    Nicolaus Copernicus

Came up with the heliocentric system in which the sun was at the center of the universe. It was important because he was the first to say our galaxy did not revolve around the Earth.
  • 1571

    Tycho Brahe

He worked to prove that Earth was the center of the universe with very careful observations. His observations were the most accurate done with the naked eye.
It was important because Kepler eventually used Tycho's data to come up with three laws that govern planetary motion. Kepler was also able to predict the future positions of planets with much greater accuracy.
  • Johannes Kepler

Determined that planets traveled around the sun not in circles but in ellipses and he calculated three laws involving motions of planets. It was important because now we have a more clear understanding of how the planets orbit our solar system.
  • Sir Issac Newton

He calculated three laws describing the motion of forces between objects. it was important because the motion of objects could be thoroughly predicted.
  • Albert Einstein

Suggested that the law of physics are the same throughout the universe. It was important because it introduced a new framework for all physics and proposed new concepts of space and time.
