The French and Indian war was between British America and New France and lasted for 9 years.It determined who controlled the colonies. Ultimately the colonies didn't like the rules, so this led to the American Revolution. -
Stamp Act of 1765
The Stamp Act of 1765 marked the first tax on the colonists putting a tax on every paper document. After deeming the taxes unconstitutional the colonists used mob violence to put a stop to them.

Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre started out as a street fight between a British soldier and a mob of American colonists. The crowd grew and eventually 5 colonists were killed. This resulted in more anger against the British. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party is when American colonies were fed up with Britain taxing Americans on tea without representation. The Americans dumped over 300 chests of tea into the Boston harbor. -
The Intolerable Acts
After dealing with constant protests and boycotting Britain showed a demonstration of power over Massachusetts and took their ability to have control over themselves. However, the British plan backfired, instead of losing hope this only brought the colonists closer together against Britain.

The battles of Lexington and Concord were the start of the American revolutionary war. It was a signal to King George III of Britain that colonists were serious about being treated fairly. -
The Olive Branch Petition
The Olive Branch Petition was the last attempt of the colonists to prevent a war with Britain. By pledging loyalty to the crown and asserting their rights as British citizens they hopes to satisfy the king. -
Declaration of Independence adopted
The Declaration of Independence split ties between the colonies and England. It gave people the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It was signed by Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams. -
Articles of Confederation Created
The Continental Congress adopted the first written constitution of the United States, but it wasn't ratified by all 13 colonies until 1781. It's purpose was to turn the colnies into a stronger union and create a government able to defeat Britain.

The Constitutional Convention took place in Philadelphia Pennsylvania in 1787. The founders planned to rewrite the Articles of Confederation, but instead created the Constitution. -
The 3/5 Compromise
The 3/5 Compromise was an agreement between the northern and southern states at the U.S. Constitutional Convention. This agreement says that only 3/5 of the slave populations votes counted when it came to the House of Representatives.

The Bill of Rights Adopted
In 1789 the congress proposed 12 amendments to the constitution where numbers 3 through 12 were adopted as the Bill of Rights. The purpose of the Bill of Rights was to guarantee the civil rights and liberties to the citizens in relation to the government.
