Britain had 100 ships off the American coast and the Americans had no way to defeat the British navy because they were so powerful. General Henry Clinton landed in South Carolina with British army
They trapped the American forces in Charles Town and the cities 5000 defenders surrendered. This is important because this means no one can help the city anymore and it will be taken over by the British.
