Mayflower Compact
This document was sigined by 41 Pilgrims that were on the Mayflower Voyage. By signing this they were agreeing to form a goverment and obey its laws. This became the basis for the government in the Plymouth Colony. -
French and Idian War
War tha was part of the seven years war. It was primarily between New France and British America. This was a costly war and in order to get money British had to higher the taxes that Americans paid. This led to rebellion and revolution. -
Sugar Act
Act that put 3 cent tax on sugar, and increased the tax on coffee, indigo, and certain kinds of wine. Also banned imports of French wine and Rum. This was the first time the colonists said they wanted a say in how much they were being taxed for things. So they started the rebellion against the British. -
Stamp Act
This was the first direct tax on American colonists. This is when every legal or public document, newspaper, and pamphlets had to have a stamp, that costed money, on it. The colonists responded with force and created the Sons of Liberty. This started the "no taxation without representation." The colonists cut all the ties they had with the British at this point. -
The Townshend Acts
This was a series of new laws that placed taxes on paper, tea, paints, glass and lead. The colonists were angry and eventually Britsh removed the tax on everything but Tea. The colonists stopped buying British goods and this leads to the Boston Massacre. -
Boston Massacre
This was the shooting of 5 American Colonists by British Troops. The British troops used gunas and open fired while the Colonists threw rocks at them. This event inspired the colonists to start the revolution. -
Boston Tea Party
The Colonies were angry about the tax on tea so the Sons of Liberty disguised themselves as Mohawk Native Americans and dumped about 342 crates of tea into the Boston Harbor as a form of boycott against the tax. This rebellion convinced the founding fathers to create the Continental Congress which started the American Revoluntionary War.
