Navigation Acts
A series of acts passed by the English Parliament in 1651, 1660, & 1663. These acts were a means to tighten the government's control on England's trade between their colonies and the rest of the world. -
Stamp Act
An act passed by the British Parliament with the intent to receive tax on newspapers and legal documents. Created to provide money for the defense of the American frontier in the Appalachian mountains. -
The Boston Massacre
Was a street fight between a patriot mob and a squad of British soldiers. Began with the mob throwing stones, sticks, and snowballs at the soldiers. Resulting in the group firing into the crowd. -
Tea Act
Parliament passed by Great Britain to reduce the massive amount of tea held by the British East India Company. -
Townshend Acts
Originated from Charles Townshend and passed by the English Parliament in an attempt to collect revenue from American Colonists by putting tariffs on imports of glass, paper, lead, paints, and tea. -
The Intolerable Acts
Series of harsh laws passed by the British Parliament. Including the Boston Port Bill that closed the Boston Harbor until colonists paid for the tea that was thrown into the river during the Boston Tea Party. -
Lexington and Concord
First military engagement during the American Revolutionary War. -
The Declaration of Independence
A statement adopted by the Second Continental Congress meeting at the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia. This was used to explain to foreign nations why the colonists choose to separate themselves from Great Britain. -
The Constitution
Supreme Law of the United States of America which guarantees certain basic rights for its citizens. Such as freedom of speech, press, religion, and petition.
