  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
    George's Washington's troops attacked and defeated a small French force. Washington had to surrender when the French counterattacked. his defeated sparked a world war that spread from America to Europe, Asia, Africa and the West Indies. In Europe the war was called the Seven's Years War. The British called it the French Indian war after the French and their American Indian allies.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    Fighting continued in various parts of the world. The British won major wars in India, the Philippines, West Africa, and the West Indies. In 1763 the Treaty of Paris ended the war for the British who kept Canada, the Great Lakes region, the Ohio river valley ,and Florida. The French were driven out of North America. The Mississippi River became the boundary between the British and the Spanish claims in North America.
  • Pontiac's Rebellion

    Pontiac's Rebellion
    During the spring of 1763 members of the Indian tribes surprised and captured most of the British forts in Ohio River Valley and along the Great Lakes. They also raided settlements in western Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virgina through the summer and fall. An Ottawa chief named Pontiac organized an attack in Detroit. the British called this uprising Pontiacs rebellion.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    In 1764, George Grenville, proposed raising money by collecting duties already in effect. it lowered the duty on forging molasses. it also assigned customs officers and created courts to collect duties and prosecute smugglers. Grenville hoped the sugar act would encourage colonists to pay tax.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    In response to the Townshend acts, the colonists brought back their violet protests and boycotts. The largest riots occurred in Boston where many British officials abused their power. In March a group of colonists hurled rocks at British soldiers, guarding the Customs house. the soldiers fired in the crowd, killing five colonists. The Patriots called this the Boston Massacre.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    Parliament passed a law that allowed the tea to be shipped to the colonists directly. this made the tea cheaper, even with tax. The colonists protested that the Parliament was tricking them into paying more money. on the night of December 16, 1773, Boston Patriots boarded three British ships with tea and dumped it into the Harbor. this event became known as the Boston tea party.
