French and Indian War
It was a war between the French and the British army over land. They were fighting over the territory that was west of the Appalachian Mountains. -
Proclamation of 1763
King George III declared that west of the Appalachian Mountains was territory of the Native Americans. This was the result of the French and Indian War. -
Sugar Act
This act made the colonists pay a tax of six pence per gallon on the importation of foreign molasses (sugar cane into sugar). -
Stamp Act
An act that made all the colonists pay a tax for beasicallly everything that was paper. For example newsspapers, documents, letter and many other things. This lasted till November 1st 1765. -
Quartering Act
A "hidden tax" which forced colonists to provide food and shelter for British troops basically in exchange for protection. It lasted all the way to 1783. -
The Boston Massacre
On March 5th, 1770 a fight broke out between a group of British soldiers and a group of "patriotic" colonists. It is said that the group of colonists started the fight becausse they started aggravating the British soldiers. One of the red coats couldn't take it no more and shot one of the colonists. The group of colonists reacted by starting to fight, but of course the soldiers won because they had guns. The soldiers killed 5 colonists and the word spread rapidly. -
Tea Act
An act that basically forced colonists to buy tea and raised the taxes on the tea. -
The Boston Tea Party
December 16, 1773 the colonists raided the tea ships and dumped everything into the water. They were revolting against the tea. -
Intolerable Acts
An act that was nade to close the Boston harbor because of the Boston Tea Party. Due to the Boston Harbor closing, it ruined the economy. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
When the Rebels and the Red coats fought at Lexington and Concord. -
The Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was/is a document that states the 13 original colonies announced that they were 13 independent states and no longer wanted to be ruled by Britain. -
Articles of Confederation: First Constitution
This was a document stating the purpose of the United States goverment after it declared Independence from Great Britain. -
Battle of Yorktown: Final Battle of the American Revolution
On the 28th of September 1781, George Washington basically declared war against the British and surrounded them with the help of the French and residents of the 13 colonies. After a deadky war the British surrendered on October 17, 1781. -
Treaty of Paris: Officially ended the American Revolutionary War
A document signed by representatives of Britian and of the U.S in Paris that officially ended the American Revolutionary War. -
