Four of Washington's columns got lost in thick fog and a cloud of smoke while other columns failed to coordinate correctly. The loss boosted America's morale and self-confidence. They believed that bad luck caused them to lose.

British capture Charleston, SC
The British capturing Charleston was an important event because it was a British victory. Benjamin Lincoln, who had 5,000 men, surrendered to the British. The British had captured 5,266 prisoners, 311 artillery pieces, 9,178 artillery rounds, 5,916 muskets, 33,000 rounds of ammunition, 212 hand grenades, 15 Regimental colors, etc.

General Cornwallis surrenders at Yorktown, VA
The event when Lord Cornwallis surrendered was a very important event because it signaled the end of the Revolutionary War. This event also showed that the Americans would now be a free country. That meant that Britain would no longer rule over the colonies which meant that the colonies could make up their own laws.
