The Great Awakening
The Great Awakening was an event that started to cause individualism among the colonists and less depending on Great Britain. This occurrence led to more religious tolerance. Not only did this incident led to more freedoms within ones self, it also led to more questioning of athority and the realization that not all people in power are correct in their rulings. -
Albany Plan of Union
Benjamin Franklin had an idea to bring the colonies together under one form of control, however this was not taken easily by the colonists as they didn't wish to lose their ability to govern themselves and determine what was right for them on their own. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was a replacement of the Molasses Act and the colonists refused to be taxed specifically for the purpose of raising money for the government when te proposed purpose was to discourage trade. -
Stamp Act
Link text The Stamp Act that occurred on March 22, 1765, was a phenomenon that would change the perspective of the American colonists forever. This affair placed taxes on every parcel of printed paper which was one of the first notations of the colonists growing weary of the control by Great Britain. -
Gaspee Affair
Enraged colonists who'd had enough of being taxed without reason burned the British Gaspee while the colonial officials were searching the colonists for goods that were deemed "illegal" by the government. This led to an uproar when Parliament apprehended those who were suspected of smuggling and the colonists believed they had rights to a jury of their peers and that their rights were being stripped away. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was the reaction of the American colonists after Great Britain infuriated them. The American colonists decided to quite literally take matters into their own hands and dump 342 crates of tea into the Boston Harbor.
