  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    War between the French and British for land both sides had Native American allies. British outnumbered French 2 million to 60,000. The British won so the colonists got more land.
  • Proclamation Line of 1763

    Proclamation Line of 1763
    Boundary along the appalachin mountains made by the British not allowing colonists to colonize to the West. Colonists were upset they fought the war and were not even allowed to use the land they won. Many colonists went anyway but they were not protected by the British.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    Law passed by British Parliament putting a tax on sugar. Put the colonies in debt and put a monopoly on sugar. It was not effective due to colonists resistance, it was repealed in 1766
  • The Stamp Act

    Tax on every piece of paper. The British were in debt from French and Indian war and needed money from their colonies. Colonists and members of the Sons of Liberty would resort to mob violence and to intimidate tax collectors into retiring.
  • Sons of Liberty

    Sons of Liberty
    Secret organization to fight taxation in the colonies. Memebers of the Sons of Liberty would tar and feather tax collectors. They played a major role in getting rid of the stamp act.
  • Declatory Act

    The Declatory act put in place by parliament repealed the stamp act and lessened the sugar act because the boycotts were hurrting British Trade.
  • TownShend Act

    More taxes on everyday products used by the colonists. Colonists had no reprensentation in Parliament saw it as an abuse of power. British sent soldiers to the colonies to enforce the new law which created more tension.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Confrontation between the colonists and British soldiers in Boston. The result of the conflict was the death of 5 people. Paul Revere used the event as propaganda to make the colonits mad at the British.
  • Committees of Correspondence

    A letter writing campaign to keep all of the colonies informed. It started after the Boston Massacre and it led to the uniting of the colonies.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Sons of Liberty dump crates of British tead into Boston harbor dressed as native americans. They did it because of the excessive tax on tea and it lead to the tolerable acts.
