Navigation Acts
The Navigation Acts were laws that England made so that the colonists wouldn't trade with other people for better quality or a lower price. They made the colonists have limited trade. -
Writs of Assistance
The Writs of Assistance was a document that granted permission for custom officials to be able to check boats and houses for smuggled goods. The colonists weren't happy with this because it violated their personal property and space. -
Treaty of Paris of 1763
The document that ended the fighting with the British and the French over the Ohio River Valley. It made the French have no power in North America anymore and expanded British territory and debt. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was the official document which restricted the colonists from moving beyond the Appalachian Mountains. This made the colonists not be able to explore more and have more land that they're obviously going to colonise. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was a taxation on the colonists from England so they can recover their debt from the French-Indian War. The Sugar Act was highly protested because they were getting taxed for a thing they use everyday. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a law passed on the colonists which said that an official stamp had to be on every single piece of official paper and non-official paper too. They did this to help England get money for the French-Indian war to recover from debt. The colonists were angry about it because they had to pretty much pay money for nothing. -
Declaratory Act
This act repealed the Stamp Act. It also lessened the Sugar Act. -
Quartering Act
The Quartering Act was a law passed that made it so that British soldiers could quarter in public houses or inns if there weren't room in the barracks. This made the colonists outraged because they had to care for someone and let them live with then under their will. -
Stamp Act Congress
It was a meeting held in New York. It was also the first gathering of elected representatives from several of the American colonies to devise a unified protest against new British taxation. -
Townshend Acts
This law declared taxes on things that people use every day like tea, glass and other things. It was one of the main reasons the taxes got protested. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was an incident where British redcoats shot 5 people at King's Square in Boston. It was the motive for the Sons of Liberty to rebel against the British. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act was the last straw with the colonists. After this act was passed the colonists are furious and more rebels groups were forming. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Party was an event where colonists threw chests of tea into the sea. They were doing this to protest all the acts that the British were declaring. -
Coercive Acts
The Coercive(Intolerable) Acts was an act passed to punish the colonists that were involved with the Boston Tea Party. This act was the final act before the Revolutionary War. -
First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress was a meeting that brought together 12 of the 13 colonies. It was a meeting to discuss about the American Revolution. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
These battles were the first ones that actually brought out the Revolutionary War. Both battles caused casualties for both sides of the war. -
Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress was a meeting that involved all of the 13 colonies, including Georgia who wasn't there during the first Continental Congress. It was another meeting to discuss about the war. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
This battle was a major confidence booster for the Colonials. Bunker Hill got captured by the British but the Colonials killed way more people than the British did. This battle made it seem like the Colonials actually had a chance. -
Olive Branch Petition
Even though the war broke out already, the Colonials still want peace. So, they made a petition for peace between the two nations and America having its independence without war. But, of course, George III didn't agree with it. -
Common Sense
Common Sense was a book written by Thomas Paine. It was used to advocate independence from Britain to the 13 colonies. -
Declaration of Independence
The official document that was used to try to grant independence from Great Britain. If the colonies didn't win the war, all the people that signed this would be hanged for treason.
