  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    Between 1754 and 1763, a major war called The French and Indian War was fought in the American Colonies. From this war the British gained territory in North America and as a result of this the British decided to help pay off the war would be to pass new tax for the colonist.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763, happened after the French and Indian war when France gave most of the Ohio, Mississippi Valley along with Canada to British.
  • Stamp Act 1765

    In 1765, a tax called "The Stamp Act" was passed by the British government and this law made colonists pay a tax to the British. This tax was on all of the printed materials that they used, newspapers, magazines, and also playing cards!
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    In 1767, the Townshend Acts that was a series of laws was passed by the British government on the colonies. The new taxes took away some freedoms from the colonists. Such as taxes on the imports of paper, paint, lead, glass, and even tea.
  • Boston Massacre

    In 1770, in Boston, a small group of British soldiers shot their muskets into a crowd and five colonists were killed.

    In 1773, the colonists held a protest against the British government for the taxes on tea so they boarding three trade ships and threw the ship's cargo of tea overboard into the ocean.

    In 1774, The Intolerable Acts was passed by the British which was a harsh laws meant to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party and other protests they held.
