  • Navigation Acts

    The Navigation Acts laws were passed by England to maintain control over colonial trade. The acts made colonist by English goods and limited trade between the colonies and other colonies.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    This was meant to keep the natives and colonists from fighting. It makes the colonist angry because they cannot go west past the Appalachian Mountains
  • Treaty of Paris

    The document that ended the war between the British and the French that was fought over the Ohio River Valley. This treaty ended French power in North America and expanded British territory.
  • Sugar Act of 1764

    Here they were more sufficient, they lowerd there tax prices to 3 pence, this shows that they highly enforced this tax strictly, tax molasses, sugar, coffee, wine etc. They also showed very harsh punishment for smugglers.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    They required all colonist to purchase stamps, and stamp marks, from England on every piece of legal paper and printed papers. This includes playing cards, wills, letters, diplomas, contracts, and newspapers. (everyone has to pay)!
  • Writs of Assistance

    A Writ of Assistance is "used to enforce an order for the possession of lands". ... In general, customs writs of assistance served as general search warrants that did not expire, allowing customs officials to search anywhere for smuggled goods without having to obtain a specific warrant.
  • Quartering Acts

    Parliament passes the Quartering Act, outlining the locations and conditions in which British soldiers are to find room and board in the American colonies. The Quartering Act of 1765 required the colonies to house British soldiers in barracks provided by the colonies.

  • Townshend Act

    A king finance minister, Charles Townshend, had a plan to raise revenue in the colonies.
  • Boston Massacare

    A single British guard was protecting a British customs location, eventually a mob was before him and he called for and received backup. There was yelling, throwing of things, and the situation escalated fast. At some point the British soldiers opened fire, killing four people instantly.
  • Coercive Acts

    There were four laws with the coercive acts.
    1. Shut down the port of Boston.
    2. Forbade Massachusetts colonist to hold town meetings.
    3. Allowed customs officers and other officials who might be charged with crimes to be tried in Britain or Canada.
  • Tea Act

    The Tea Act was the final thing in a series of unpopular policies and taxes imposed by Britain on American colonies. The policy ignited a “powder keg” of opposition and resentment among American colonists and was the catalyst of the Boston Tea Party.
  • Boston Tea Party

    American colonists, frustrated and angry at Britain for imposing “taxation without representation,” dumped 342 chests of British tea into the harbor.
  • First Continental Congress

    They voted to ban all trade with Britain until Intolerable Acts were repealed. They also called on the militia for the colonies - minutemen.

    This was called the "Shot heard 'round the world". There were 700 British troops and only 70 minutemen, 8 minutemen.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    They symbolize peace. They blamed the king and Parliament for what was happening but wanted to avoid the war.
  • Second Continental Congress

    They agreed to make an official army. The name was George Washington the general. They also did Authorize printing of money to pay soldiers.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Alarmed the British attack 2,200 soldiers. They also unleashed a huge amount of fire all at once.
  • Common Sense

    This was created by Thomas Paine. They said it made common sense to leave England.
