Magna Carta
The Magna Carta was the Great Charter approved by king John of England in 1215. It limited royal power and established certain rights of English himself. -
Petition of Right
In 1628, this was a statement of civil liberties sent by the English Parliament to Charles I. The Petition of Right began when Charles I broke up Parliament and ruled over England himself. -
English Bill of Rights
Series of acts passed by the English Parliament in 1689 that limited the rights of monarchy. It also ensured the superiorit of Parliament. -
Albany Plan of Union
Ben Franklin was the first to come up with this idea. It was a proposal to create a unified government. -
Boston Massacre
Was a street fight between a patriot Mob and a squad of British soldiers. Several colonists were killed and this led to a campaign by speech-writers to rouse the ire of the citizenry. -
Boston Tea Party
Was referred to by John Adams as the destruction of tea in Boston. It was a political protest by the Sons of Liberty. -
First Continental Congress
This was a meeting of delegates that met at Carpenters Hall. They met in response to the Britsh Parliament's enactment of the Coercime Acts. -
Second Continental Congress
It was a convention of delegtes that began meeting in th summer of 1775. They started meeting together soon after the war began. -
Declaration of Independence
It was a document adopted by the Continental Congress in 1776. It stated that the 13 colonies became independent and were no longer under Britain's control. -
Articles of Confederation
It was the original Constitiution of the U.S.. It served as the written document that established the functions of the national gonvernment. -
Shay's Rebellion
This was an armed uprising hat tooke place in Massachusetts. This uprising happened becausethe farmers didn't like the taxes that were being imposed. -
Philadelphia Convention
This convention was set up to try and improve the Articles of Confederation. Only delegates from 5 states were called upon to talk about the situation. -
New Jersey Plan
This was also known as the small state plan. It was a proposalfor the structure of the Unites States government.
