Battles of Lexington and concord
This was the battle that marked the start of the American revolution, known as the “shot heard around the world” war. The British took around 700 troops to take the colonies military supplies. When the colonists heard their plan they met in Lexington to defend their towns and that’s where the first shot was fired. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson with the help of Benjamin Franklin and John Adam’s. It was written to separate the colonies from the British rule and to give the colonists the right to self governance and their right to independence. The document also says that people have the right to tear down a government if it gets destructive. -
Battle of Saratoga
This battle took place in New York from September 19th-October 7th. The reason of this battle was to gain control of the Hudson valley river and for the British to isolate New England from the rest of the colonies. The British surrendered and it was an American victory. -
Battle of Yorktown
This battle was from September 28th, ending on October 19th. The American and French combined to fight against the British. The British attacked to resupply and reinforce his army but the American and French won and it caused a change in British government. -
Treaty of Paris
This treaty was a landmark agreement and ended the American Revolutionary War and form the United States. Britain recognized the United States as an independent nation, ending their rule over former colonies. Established the boundaries of the Mississippi River as the western boarder.
