The French and Indian War was a nine year war between France and Great Britain. The war helped shape the American Revolution because it contributed to the British government’s decision to impose new taxes on its American colonies. Ultimately the war’s expenses led to colonial discontent and led to the American Revolution. -
The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was made to provide increased revenues to meet the costs of defending the British Empire. The Stamp Act was the first British parliamentary attempt to raise revenue through taxation. It was a direct tax on the colonist and led to “Taxation without representation.” The Stamp Act led to the American Revolution because it caused a strain of problems in the relationship between colonies. -
Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts were a series of four acts in an attempt to exert authority over the colonies. The acts were an abuse of power and when the colonist resisted, Britain sent troops to collect the taxes leading to the American Revolutionary War. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a small British army that was threatened by mob harassment that opened fire and killed many people. This led to the American Revolution because the Royal Governor left the town of Boston and caused the revolution to rebel throughout the colonies. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was a protest, protesting tax on tea(taxation without representation). A party of Bostonians disguised as Mohawk people and boarded ships and dumped hundreds of tea into the harbor. This led to the American Revolution because it began the violent part of the revolution. After, the government passed taxes on paint, paper, lead, and tea. -
Intolerable Act
The Intolerable Acts were a series of laws passed by the British parliament. The outrage the acts caused led to the major push of the American Revolution. -
First Continental Congress convenes
The first Continental Congress convenes was called by the committee of correspondence in response to the Intolerable Acts. Fifty-six delegates represented all the colonies except Georgia. It led to the American Revolution by shaping the way for the first national constitution. -
The Bunker Hill battle
This is a key battle because it taught the British to not engage in direct assault and how ineffective it is. This battle caused a lot of casualties and the official winner was the British. However, the colonist used this as a boost to fight hard even though they were inexperienced and would get a significant amount of casualties from it. -
The battles of Lexington and Concord
This battle was the beginning of the Revolutionary wars in America. The British forces tried to take supplies from Massachusetts, but they were caught and suffered many casualties. This inspired people and sparked the true war between the two nations. -
America Declares its Independence
The Declaration of Independence created by the congress. It stated certain ideas that the colonist believed were important, such as liberty and equality. These were a major part in the American Revolution because they were written to give England complete control over the thirteen colonies.
