  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The French and Indian War was a battle between the French and the British, which also included the colonies who were sided with the British. The war was fought over the land in the Ohio River Valley because the French claimed that the colonists were expanding too far west, which upset them. At the end of this war, which was won by the British, they gave the French the land in the Ohio River Valley which was the land that the colonists had just fought over, so it angered them.
  • Proclomation Line of 1763

    The Proclomation Line of 1763 was to prevent the French from getting upset at the colonists again for expanding too far west. This "line" was the Appalachain Mountains, which was supposed to act like a boundary for the colonists and they weren't supposed to explore or settle any land further than this natural landmark. However, this did not stop them.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act was an indirect tax on the colonists resulting in Britains severe debt from the French and Indian War. They were in debt millions of dollars and needed a way to pay it back, so they blamed and taxed the colonists. This taxation was put on all sugar products which upset a lot of the more wealthy merchants in the colonies, because colonists started to smuggle in sugar which didn't make the legitimate merchants money.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was a way for the King to raise money to pay back the debt he owed from the French and Indian War. This tax, put a direct tax on all printed goods, which upset the colonists a lot. The main way the colonists would communicate with each other was by mail, which was now being taxed so this made them very upset. The colonists also started feeling like they weren't getting any representation in Parliament.
  • Troops Sent to Boston

    Troops Sent to Boston
    The King sent 10,000 British troops to Boston to help prevent further protests and riots. He was also trying to show the other colonies that he was in control and that Boston was in the wrong.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre took place in Boston, where a patriotic mod had broke loose and surrounded a groop of British soldiers, where they started verbally abusing them and started throwing various objects at them. Without warning, the British fired into the crowd and killed 5 as well as injuring an additional 6.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was in response to the Tea Act. The Tea Act was implemented by the King to bail out the East Indies Tea Company. The colonists were upset by this and refused to buy the tea. So when a large cargo ship containing one million dollars worth of tea came into the harbor, colonists dressed up as Native Americans stormed the ship during the night and threw the tea into the ocean.
