    Dennis Banks is one of the co- founders of AIM and helped lead AIM. He was also a Native American activist, teacher, and author. He participated in the 1969–1971 occupation of Alcatraz Island.

    Vernon Bellecourt
    Vernon Bellecourt was a leader of AIM, he worked in urban places to help force civil rights for American Indians.
    Vernon Bellecourt was a leader in American Indian Movement actions ranging from the 1972 occupation of the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington to the 1992 Redskin Superbowl demonstrations.

    The Trail of Broken Treaties in 1972 took part in diffrent protests and marchs at Washington, D.C. AIMs propsal included restoration of 110 million acres back to the American Indian people.
  • Wounded Knee Occupation

    200 Lokata Indians occupied Wounded Knee, South Dakota demanding fair treaty negoitations. They choose the site of the Wounded Knee Massacare for symbolic. This event brought wide spread sympathy across America and increased awareness and support for American Indian civil rights.

     Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act
    Other things such as protection of Native Americans from segrogation and harm from whites. AIM also helped fight for the civil rights and made sure that the American Indians were being protected and other racial problems.

    In 1978 the longest walk across the US to protest anti- Indian legislation. The legislation was later defeated. This helped AIM to fight for justice.
