War between french and great britain for control of land east of Mississippi river. British reason for war was to gain control of Ohio river valley to settle farther. The colonists reaction was they were happy because they might get to settle out more. -

700 troups reached Lexington While only 70 militia men were waiting to drive british back. No one knows who shot but Ralph Emerson coined it as theshow heard around the world. British reason was to capture lexington and concord. Colonist reaction was they were worried. -

Battle of Bunker Hill
British army was stationed at the top of bunker hill waiting for the american militias to arrive. One of the generals stated that "you do not shoot untill you see the whites of their eyes.' The british reason was to win and gain control of more territory. Colonists reaction was doughtful. -
