    World War 1 started on July 28, 1914 when Franz Ferdinand was murdered. He was the archduke of Austria-Hungary. This put all the European countries against each other. Britain, France and Russia formed the Triple Entente and Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy formed the Triple Alliance. The United States joined on April 6, 1917. The great war ended November 11,1918.

    This ship has construction begin on August 17, 1904 and was launched on June 7,1906. The ship was an American ship and was sunk by a German submarine on May 7, 1915.

    The Great Migration

    This is the relocation of more than 6 million African Americans moving mostly from the South to the North. They moved because of unsatisfactory economic opportunities and harsh segregationist laws, but found that they competed for living spaces and only could get hard labor, low paying jobs in their new cities. Even though that was the case, they still received almost 3 times the amount of money as they did before.

    This act gave the government to draft people into the war. If you were a man that was 21- 30 years old you had to enlist. Within a few months more than 10 million people had enlisted.

    Lenin lead the Russian Revolt

    The Russian government was overthrown and rebuilding itself, not to long after this it was overthrown again by the more radical Bolsheviks, led by Vladimir Lenin.
  • Influenza Epidemic

    This was one of the deadliest flu ever. '..infected an estimated 500 million people worldwide about one-third of the planet’s population at the time and killed an estimated 20 million to 50 million victims.' This was even a major problem in the United States, where it killed about 675,000 people. First observed in Europe but it spread all over the world very quickly. Many scientist and doctors fought to find a cure but many of them had dies during world War 1. A cure was never found until 2008.

  • US rejects League of Nations membership

    The United States rejected signing the Treaty of Versailles which means they also rejected the League of Nations membership.

    The Sedition Act of 1918 stated that people or countries cannot say negative things about the government or the war.
  • Eighteenth Amendment

    Congress ratifies this, prohibiting the sale of alcohol anywhere in the United States. (production, transport, and sale of alcohol illegal)

    This stated that the first amendment could be restricted if whats being said or printed is a “clear and present danger.”
  • US Senate rejects Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles is treaty that ended the war.

    19th amendment
    The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
    This amendment was very important in women rights history because it gave women the right to vote. A similar bill was proposed in 1878 but the bill was rejected, though it would be re-introduced every year for the next 41 years. After this bill was passed, women received more and more rights every year.
