    WWI was one of the largest wars in history, and was ironically dubbed “the war to end all wars”. It involved alliances among most countries and lasted from July 28, 1914 to November 11, 1918.

    RMS Lusitania was a British ship carrying immigrants and weapons across the sea and was sunk off the coast of Ireland by Germans. This killed 1,198 people aboard.

    Jeannette Rankin was the first woman in American history to be elected to the House of Representatives. This was amazing in the women’s rights movement because the 19th amendment for women’s suffrage wasn’t even passed until 1920. She was a member of the Republican Party.

    This act authorized the US federal government to raise a national army for service in WWI through conscription. It was also called the Selective Draft Act.

    The Espionage Act of 1917 is a federal law passed on June 15th of that year. Its purpose was to prohibit interference with military operations and ban support of our enemies at this time.

    The Sedition Act of 1918 was a a piece of legislation designed to protect America’s participation in World War I. It was later repealed in 1920.
  • Teapot Dome Scandal

    Teapot Dome Scandal
    The Teapot Dome Scandal lasted from 1921-1923 and involved the administration of the current president Warren G. Harding. The scandal involved ornery oil tycoons, poker-playing politicians, illegal liquor sales, a murder-suicide, a womanizing president and a bagful of bribery cash delivered on the sly. In the end, the scandal made the Senate conduct full investigations into government corruption.
