The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850
The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 was part of the compromise of 1850 between slave state and non slave states. This stated that if a former slave was caught in the north, they would have to be brought back to the south. Before this law was passed Slaves could safely escape to the north and live a slave free life. Yet slaves could still escape even after this law passed if they were careful. A good example for this would be Harriet Tubman's underground railroad. -
