The U.S invaded and bombed southern Iraq in 1991. The troops expelled Saddam Hussein’s Republican guard from Kuwait at this time. It was an important move for the U.S, considering we are still at war with Iraq. -

Haiti was overtaken by a dictator and the U.S stepped in and
used threats of force to get rid of the military dictatorship. They re-elected the rightful president to restore the government. -
American Military in Phillipines
The Phillipines Pact was a mutual defense agreement that was made in 1951. There were disagreements over redrafting the agreement, therefore all American military forces were withdrawn from the Phillipines in 1992. -
Dr. Boutros Boutros Ghali gains power in UN
Dr. Ghali was an Egyptian that became the secretariat for the civil-service branch of the UN. He had the power to bring the Security Council into any matter that might affect international peace and security. -
U.S Troops in Somalia
President George W. Bush sent 28,000 U.S. troops on a UN mission to distribute food in war-torn Somalia in 1992. Somali warlord Mohammed Aidid attacked and killed some UN troops, and the UN ordered him to be captured. Congress cut off funding and the troops were withdrawn in 1993. -
Trade Embargo
From the war in Vietnam there were many missing POW's. In 1994 President Clinton lifted the 18-year trade embargo created to force the return of "missing" POWs. This was an agreement with Vietnam which also affected the U.S. -
September 11th
September 11th was an important event for the U.S. Al Qaeda's troops killed over 3,000 people in the terrorist attack on New York and Washington. This made America angry and retaliate. -
War in Afghanistan
In retaliation to what happened on September 11th, the U.S invaded Afghanistan. They took control of the government and removed the Taliban control. The U.S is still dealing with foreign affairs in Afghanistan. -
Saddam Hussein
US forces invade Iraq to overthrow Saddam Hussein. Troops remained there to fight against the UN-approved elected government. They were stationed there until 2008. -
Laws and Pacts
George W. Bush signed the United States-India Peaceful Atomic Energy Cooperation Act which turned it into a law. This would stop us from getting into an atomic weapons war which could harm much more than just the U.S.
