    Populism arose in the 1880's, due to farmers that were wanting change in the economic system, and the belief that industrialists and bankers run the government, and was against them. Progressivism is the belief of progress , and faith in the economy and government. These beliefs were came up with during the 19th and 20th century
  • Manifest Destiny

    Manifest Destiny was a belief in the U.S. that it was destined that Americans expand to redeem and remake the west. This belief was a mission to build up liberty and economic opportunity but led to ,Western settlement, Native American removal and war with Mexico.
    The term manifest destiny originated in the 1840's , and was an example of the Anglo- Americans, search for a new start
  • Andrew Carnegie

    Andrew Carnegie was an entrepreneur that was in the steel company , and had had his negative and positive effect on society. Carnegie made railroads and machines that transport goods easy and possible. These new machines gave many jobs to people who need them.
  • Clarence Darrow

    Clarence Darrow was a journalist , and lawyer who attempted to help most of the many famous individuals during the Era of Industrialism. Darrow moved to Chicago in 1887 in attempt to set the anarchists free in the Haymarket riot. He was also acquainted with , and defended William D. Haywood, Richard Loeb, Nathan Leopold, and John T. Scopes.
  • Ida B Wells

    Ida B Wells was a Civil Rights Activist, and Journalist , who regardless of being born from a slave family , went on to become one the best civil rights leaders in U.S. history. She was the leader of an anti-lynching crusade in the 1890's , and a found integral groups that were determined to gain racial equality.
  • William Jennings Bryan

    William Jennings Bryan was a U.S. Representative and a congressman that was elected into office in 1990. To follow his defeat for U.S. senate, he spent his time for the next two years , being an editor for the Omaha World- Herald. William was faced a lot of hardship , because of his losses to William Mckinley in 1900, and then to Howard Taft in 1908.
  • Eugene V. Debs

    Eugene was known as a Union Leader, Founding member of the IWW , five time running candidate of the United States, and Leader of the ARU. Due to his leadership of the ARU Debs was arrested and convicted to six months in jail for defying a court injunction against a strike.
  • Immigration and the American Dream

    Immigration and the American Dream primarily means that for immigrants that are coming to the United States, they seek a life with a job, a house , and possibly a family , with no worry of external negative entities. Immigration has also played a positive role in the American economy , but face barriers when it comes to proper education , and households. Everyone has a different interoperation when it comes to the American Dream, but in the end the only meaning is "dreams and aspirations".

    Theodore Roosevelt was an American statesman, author, soldier, and naturalist , who served two terms as the President of the United States , from 1901 - 1909. Roosevelt was also known as being the youngest president to be in office following the assassination of President Mckinley in 1901.

    Upton Sinclair was an Author , Journalist , and Activist , and with him being a socialist , he wounded up writing one of the best selling novels " The Jungle ". This novel unveiled the secrets of the meat packing industry and it's little to no concern about the consumers health.

    Susan B Anthony was a Publisher, Civil Rights Activist, Editor, Women's Right's Activist,and Journalist, who inspired many during the time of Women demanding rights from the government, and she also led the National American Women Suffrage Association
  • 16th Amendment

    The 16th Amendment was a way that the legalized tax that came directly from one's income or income tax. The amount that is taxed is based on ones income, the lower the income the lower the income tax and vice versa. Income tax was first introduced in 1861 to pay for the Civil War. It was abolished in 1872, and when the government tried to reintroduce it in 1894 it was immediately challenged.
  • 17th Amendment

    The 17th Amendment of the United States, provides regular voters a chance to select their senators. The Senate of the United States is to have two Senators from each state , that is elected by the people who have been in that state for 6 years+. This system is used so that the voting process of Senators remains fair.
  • Jane Addams

    Jane Addams was know for her significance as International President, Women's International League of Peace and Free in 1919 , and was a peace organizer. During her time , Jane was working to help the poor, and children that were being put to work as industrial laborers.
  • Civil Service Reform

    Civil Service Reform is the effort to establish a system for selecting government employees based on merit as indicated by competitive examinations. Congress took action in the late 19th century to protect ethical politicians and create standards for political service. The spoils system was also a big part in the Civil Service Reform and is described as the practice in which a political party, after winning an election , gives jobs to it's supporters, primarily government jobs.
  • Urbanization

    Urbanization is known as the shift from a rural to a urban, which is also known as population growth. The cause of Urbanization is mainly when the economy is on a rise, and more individuals are employed, resulting in the city's population to grow. Half of the World's population was resulted to be living in an urban community by the end of 2008.
