The introduction to industrialization advanced almost everything. They helped the U.S grow into a modern and powerful country. It made economic activity into an area, society, or even country. -
Urbanization
Urban area has businesses that attracted immigrants and people moving from rural areas who were looking for jobs. This caused cities to grow rapidly. This also caused many immigrants to look for jobs in the U.S, which they considered the land of opportunity. -
Monroe Doctrine
Quincy Adams had an Idea called the Monroe Doctrine, that the U.S would stay neutral in Europe’s affairs. Also there would no longer be colonization in the western hemisphere. If Europe were to control any nation in the West Hemisphere, we would consider it hostile. -
Indian Removal
The Indian Removal Act was passed by Andrew Jackson. It was to remove Indians from their lands east of the Mississippi river. All indians were driven to reservations or killed. -
Manifest Destiny
Jefferson bought the the Louisiana purchase from France in 1803.

Nativism
People favored “Native” people in the U.S . Which left less jobs for immigrants. The “Native” people were not even native, they were also immigrants, but did not believe that. -
Bessemer Process
The Bessemer process was the first cheap industrial process that mass produced steel. It was from molten pig iron before the development of the open hearth furnace later on. Building were able to last longer now, and weren't as expensive to make now. -
Homestead Act
President Abraham Lincoln, gave out The Homestead Act of 1862 . It was one of the most significant events in the westward expansion of the United States. It granting 160 acres of free land to people. It gave everyone a fair chance to be successful. -

The Gilded Age was the term given to U.S during 1865-1896. This is when the U.S became extremely rich. This also the time were there was corruption in the government. -

A women's right activist. Fought for the voting rights of women. A founder of the National American Women Suffrage Association. -

He was an American industrialization. He led the steel industry. One of the richest people of his time. -
Immigration and American Dream
Between the 1880s through the 1920s, around 25 million people migrated to the U.S. They came to the U.S to get away from poverty from their country. The believed that America was a land of opportunity. -
Political Machines
Political bosses control political machines which control votes. William Tweed was a corrupt political boss, he sabotaged the votes. He played a major role in the politics of New York City. He was also able to steal to steal around 20 million dollars, and later brought to jail. -
Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882
This was the first law against immigration in the U.S.The act provided an absolute 10 year ban on Chinese labor immigration. This would later lead to more immigration laws in the U.S in the future. -
Haymaker Riot
A labor protest turned into a riot after someone threw a bomb at a police officer. At least 8 people died in the riot. This was a setback for the labor movement, people wanted a 8 hour work day. -
Dawes Act
The Dawes Act split up reservations held by Native American tribes. They divided it into smaller units and distributed these units to individuals within the tribe. This was to encourage Natives to become more like American and practice our culture. -
William Jennings Bryan
He was a congressmen of Nebraska. He tried to run for president many times. Gave a speech called the Cross of Gold. -
Populism
In the 1890s, Agrarian reformers refocused their energies and organized the new populist. The party called upon the federal government to help economic depressions, regulate banks and corporations, and help farmers who were going through hard times. Populism is the concern for the ordinary people. -
Robber Barons
This was term was term used on people that became leaders of a business. Robber Barons were considered people who practiced unfair business tactics to become rich. -
Progressivism
It was a movement in the late 1800s to increase democracy in the U.S. The movement was to try to end corruption in the government and businesses. Also to give women the rights they deserved. -
Klondike Gold Rush
Lots of people went to the Yukon Territory in 1897, after gold was discovered there. Around 100,000 people when to Yukon Territory in Canada. -
Yellow Journalism
Yellow Journalism is used in newspapers that has little to no research on the subject. The newspapers instead just have eye catching titles, to sell more papers. Today, almost all articles use a clickbait title to get you to read their stuff. -

African American civil rights leader. A founding member of NAACP. She also founded the National Association of Colored Women. -
