  • Bikini Bombshell-Eniwetok Atoll

    Bikini Bombshell-Eniwetok Atoll
The fist Hydrogen bomb ever created was called the Bikini Bombshell. It was created on the Eniwetok Atoll(island). It was basically created because the Soviets had created the atomic bomb. So we created the Hydrogen bomb as sort of a counter attack to the Soviet's atomic bomb. As it turns out he Hydrogen bomb ended up being 1,000 times more powerful than the atomic bomb. I believe this event was important in our culture because it shows just how inivative and competitive we are in the US.
  • DNA Discovery

    DNA Discovery
Watson and Crick were two scientists who first discovered the structure of DNA. DNA is like the outline of someone's life. It was an extremely important discovery. DNA defines who we are. I also like to think that in a way it makes our soceities safer because DNA is used in the Police force daily to find "bad guys." DNA is an all around amazing discovering that should be recongnized.
  • Color TV's First Broadcast

    Color TV's First Broadcast
Color TV brought an even bigger attraction to the television than there already was. I think most of us can agree that colored television is way more eye catching than black and white. Peter Carl Goldmark created color TV. I thought this was an interesting event to put in my timeline because our world would be completely different if TV wasn't so attractive and amusing.
  • Polio Vaccine

    Polio Vaccine
Polio is a disease that attacks the nervous system and can cause paralysis. It used to be deadly until Dr. Jonas Salk came up with a cure. In the 20th century Polio was one of the top causes for death mainly because the disease is so easily transmitted. I thought this discovery was important to include in my timeline because an epidemic was ended that could have still been going on today if a cure was not found.

Rosa Park's refused to give up her seat on bus
Back in the 1950s, segregation was very common especially on the buses. They even had a white section and a black section on the bus. That is where Rosa Parks comes in. She was a black woman riding the bus who was told to move out of the black section for a white person because the white section was full. She stood up for herself and even though she got arrested, she made a statement we all still remember today. That is why I chose this event to put in my timeline. Rosa Parks made an impact.
  • Insterstate Highway System

    Insterstate Highway System
Eisenhower signed the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 which created 41,000 miles of roadway that would eliminate unsafe routes, insufficient routes and large traffic jams. Not to say that this isn't any traffic on the highway no a days but there are normally specific reasons for the back up such as an accident. I chose to have this on my timeline because we use highways daily now a days. The are a huge part of transportation today.

His books influenced children in a positive way and that is why I thought it was an important event to add to my timeline.
