    Lincoln became presidant on November 6th 1860 which came as a surprise because he was not the most popular person. But in the end he became the presidant with 1.9 million votes out of 4.7 million voters. This is importnat because some people beleive that this upset was a sign to show the dividing of the nations.

    Seven States pull apart from the United States and from there own government. The become independant and form their own constitution. This is important because the southerners wanted slavery and to have their own set of rules and the northerners wanted to free the slaves. v
  • Battle at Ft. Sumter

    Battle at Ft. Sumter
    During this battle the Confederacy was the first to fire but the union didnt return fire until 2 hours into the battle. They were low on ammunition and supplies. No soldiers were killed in this battle and on April 13 they surrendered the fort.   • 1st Battle of Bull Run

    1st Battle of Bull Run
    Gen. McDowell (north) led about 28,000 troops against the Confederate army of 32,000. This battle was the first battle in the war and it was fought in Virginia. The North wanted to put a quick end to the war so they tried to wipe out the confederate army. The Confederacy eventually ran the Union away and the South won the first battle. This is important because it was the first official battle in the war.
  • Fort Henery

    Fort Henery
    Fort Henery was built in Tenesee after they joined the south. It was built in a poor spot low on a river bank which made it an easy target for the north. The union attacked with boats and Fort Henery was partially flooded. The fort was poorly defended and one of the heavy guns exploded inside the fort and killed most of the troops on the south side. The Union won. THis event is important because this was one of the biggest wins for the union side.

    Shiloh
    This battle was the bloodiest battle in American hostory at its time. There were 24000 casualties in this battle. There were 13000 union casualties and 11000 confederate casualties. The union came out on top in this one ven though there were many casualties. I think that this is important because of how many casualties and how it marked this war in how devistating it was to lose this many people.

  • The 2nd Battle of Bull Run

    The 2nd Battle of Bull Run
    During this time General Pope took over from McClellen and went to battle at Manassas for the second time. The Union lost again even though the Confederate army had substantually less soldiers than the Union. After that battle McClellen took over again. This is important because it was the second battle of manassas and the first went to the confederate side and so did the second so it was a big hit to the union

    This was the battle that Lincoln needed to win because right after this he would read the Emancipation Proclamation so that he would look like a strong leader. This battle was a sure win for the Union with 87000 troops going up against 45000 of the confederacy.     Emancipation Proclamation
    The Emancipation Proclamation is the famous speech that Abraham Lincoln gave saying that on the First of the new year (1863) all slaves would be considered free from the rebelling states. This is important because the Confecderacy would not use the slaves to support their armies anymore because the slaves were considered free up north and they didnt want to loose their workers.

    The Battle of Chancellorsville
    In this battle Lee and his lieutenant Jackson made a plan to attack the Unions massive amout of troops. Jackson and about 30000 troops went through the wilderness and demolished the flank of the union army. Jackson died by friendly fire. but the Confederates came out and won in the end.     The Battle Of Gettysbug
    THis was the largest battle fought in the civil war. After 3 days of fighting the south retreats. The south had collected around the small town of gettysburg and waited for the union. There were many deaths and after this battle took place Lincoln gave his famous speech, the Gettysbug Adress. I think that this battle was one of the most important because it was the biggest battle therefore it was the biggest win for the Union army.

    The Siege of Viksberg
    This was the final military action of the Vicksburg Cmapain of the Civil war.     Robert E. Lee surrenders to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse. THis is where the war ended. This is important because this was the end of the Civil War and the Union won.

    Presidant Lincoln dies shortly after the war ended. He was in the theater when someone came up behind him and shot him in the head. It was discovered that John Wilkes Booth was the killer. This is important because it was very shortly after the war and John WIlkes Booth was a huge Confederate sympathizer

    The 13th Amendemt
    On this date the !3th amendment was added to the constitution. This amendment says that there will be no more slavery ! This is important because it was basically the cause of the war! THe Union won and slavery was abolished!
