President Bush Responds to the Attacks
On September 11, 2002 President George W. Bush addresses the American people on the attacks saying that these acts are seeing the worst in people, but this cannot effect the core of America. He is grateful for the men and women who stepped up and are helping in this time of need. He asks for the prayers for the people and finishes out with Psalms 23, , saying that we as the people will go forward and defend the freedom of the country. -
Search and Rescue/Cleanup at Ground Zero
Once the people were rescued from the rubble (only 20 lived), the workers and firefighters began to go through the rubble to find remains of dead bodies. It took Almost a whole year to get it cleaned up. There was so much rubble that they needed to transport it to an island landfill. -
Civilians Respond and Help
Many people had relatives, friends, and coworkers who died in the buildings when they fell down. Many people were distraught. They would raise up flags on flag poles, pay their respects to graves, wear memorabilia to have the day remembered, and had concerts, events, and charities to raise awareness. America was devastated, and it showed. It felt like the world was put on hold. -
The War on Terror is Declared
The term, "War on Terror" was officially used on September 20, 2001. The War on Terror is when America went to war with terrorists, with the help of other countries. On October 7, the war in Afghanistan begins. Later on we face terrible trials of going to war with Iraq as well, many more terror attempts/attacks, and America not feeling safe anymore. -
War in Afghanistan
October 7: The day the war in Afghanistan began. To this day, the war is still going on. Nine Estonian soldiers died, eight were killed in action, one was killed as an accident, and 92 soldiers have been wounded in action. -
USA PATRIOT Act
In response of the 9/11 attacks the "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act" better known as the USA PATRIOT Act. This allows law enforcement to have more power when it comes to terrorists investigations and punishments. -
Homeland Security Act
The Homeland Security was established in November 11, 2002. This act is to prevent terrorist attacks in the United States, making the United States less vulnerable, and if a terrorist attack was to occur the this Act allows the Homeland Security to direct and lead the investigation. Also the Homeland Security Act established the US Department of Homeland Security that includes many other organization including the US Coast Guard. -
War in Iraq
The war in Iraq was started by president George W. Bush in 2003 because the dictator, Saddam Hussein and the weapons that Iraq posed as a threat. The US army quickly swept throw Iraq until reaching the capital and over-throw the government. The war ended on December 18, 2011. -
The Hunt for Bin Laden
Ever since the 9/11 attack, speculations that Osama Bin Laden caused these attacks circulated around the world. America's government has been looking for him. May 2nd, 2011, Bin Laden was killed by the US during a raid. Finally, the manhunt was over. -
National Remembrance and Mourning
On the ten year anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, the nation reflected on the losses. A lot of families went to new World trade Center, at the Pentagon, and a flower field in Pennsylvania to show respect to those who died in 9/11.
