    Deceleration of Independence
    This document was signed and it gave us independence from Great Britain. It was adopted by the continental congress. The deceleration was a motivation for seeking independence.

    Louisiana Purchase
    Napoleon left his dreams of conquering America. He then needed money to fight so he accepted Jefferson's offer of $15,000,000. This nearly doubled the size of the US.

    The War of 1812 was fought between the Native Americans, Great Britain, and America. The only ones who really lost would of been the Native Americans because they lost lot's of land. During Madison's presidency the white house burnt down and it inspired Francois Scott Key to write the star spangled banner.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine
    The Monroe Doctrine made it clear that Europe doesn't interfere with the western hemisphere. This policy was stated by U.S. President James Monroe during his seventh annual State of the Union Address to Congress.
  • Polk Doctrine

    Polk Doctrine
    James Polk revived the Monroe Doctrine in order to warn European forces to stay away from the United States and especially Oregon. He had a far more aggressive approach to this doctrine than Monroe did, and was willing to use force to create a nation. Polk believed that it was America's destiny to expand all the way to California and Oregon.

    Mexican-American War

    James Polk really wanted to take California and the rest of the Southwest away from Mexico, so he sent troops even though he was scared that the Europeans would side with Mexico and help them. Fortunately they didn’t ally with the Mexicans so it was an easy win for America. Mexico lost about ⅓ of its territory including Utah and California.

    The Spanish-American War

    Cuba and the Philippines had been fighting for independence from Spain for awhile.United States declared war on Spain because of the sinking of the Battleship Maine. The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on December 10, 1898.
