Germany Surrenders
On May 7th, Germany surrendered to the Allied forces which helped World War II end. The surrendered in Reims, France. -
World War II Ends
World War II ended when Truman announced Japan’s surrender. The news spread around America very fast. On September 2nd, the final surrender documents were signed. -
The First Atomic Bomb
Fat Man was the first atomic bomb to be dropped on a city with civilians in it. Fat Man was dropped on Hiroshima. Little boy, three days later, was dropped on Nagasaki. The Japanese then surrendered after the second bomb. -
NATO is Created
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was established as a mutually defense treaty between America, Canada, England, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, and Iceland. The goal of NATO is to protect the security and freedom of all countries and the members within. -
Credit Cards 1st Used
In New York, the first credit card was accepted by 14 restaurants. 200 people first tested it. The card was from the American Express Company. -
The Car Seat Belt Introduced
Cars now became more safe with the invention of the seatbelt. It holds the passengers in their seats. This was a major breakthrough which caused cars to become way more safe.
