Since the Spanish were afraid that portugal would take the riches back that Christopher had broung, the pope made an invisible from the north pole to south pole. Spain got the non-christian islands west the line and portugal had the non-christian islands east from it. Portugal didnt like it and called for a meeting ending up as th treaty of tordesillas. The line was moved farther west and Portugal was able to claim Brazil. The people of Europe now claimed where ever they wanted w/out popes help. -
