    Around 75,000 slaves escape to freedom through use of the Underground Railroad. This was a system in which free blacks and white conductors would help guide and find shelter for the slaves that were escaping.
  • Louisiana Revolt

    Louisiana Revolt
    Slaves in Louisiana revolt near New Orleans. Revolt is suppressed by u.s. Troops
  • Nat Turners Revolt

    Nat Turners Revolt
    Turner plans a revolt, gathers followers (slaves), and kills nearly 60 whites before he is captured and killed.
  • Harpers Ferry Attack

    Harpers Ferry Attack
    Led by John Brown, a group of slaves and white abolitionist attract Harpers Ferry, Virginia. They capture the federal armory and arsenal before local militia finds out. Brown and the other people are captured and executed. The raid begins the advent of the civil war, which starts two years later.
  • Stono Rebellion

    Stono Rebellion
    Takes place in Stono, NC. Slaves start their march to freedom, and at least 80 black and whites are killed.
