The voting rights act of 1965
The Voting rights act of 1965 was put into force on the 6th of august 1965. It was to allow people of colour to openly vote without the restrictions of things such as poll taxes and literacy testing. It was signed and enforced by President Lyndon B. Johnson. It was signed in Washington D.C. The voting act of 1965 caused many affects, not only would it give african americans the right to vote, but also gave them a theoretical voice to the american government.
