Ida B. Wells Homes were constructed for African American families in 1939-1941. -
History
It was the fourth public housing project constructed in Chicago before WWII. It had 860 apartments and 800 row houses and garden apartments. It also included Madden Park. -
Problems
Faced problems with gang violence, shootings, and drug dealing. Also neglect from housing authority. -
Demolition
The United States Department of Housing and Urban Deveolpment first started demolishing housing in 2002. It was finally completed in 2011.
