    Ida B. Wells Homes were constructed for African American families in 1939-1941.

    It was the fourth public housing project constructed in Chicago before WWII. It had 860 apartments and 800 row houses and garden apartments. It also included Madden Park.

    Faced problems with gang violence, shootings, and drug dealing. Also neglect from housing authority.
  • Demolition

    Demolition
    The United States Department of Housing and Urban Deveolpment first started demolishing housing in 2002. It was finally completed in 2011.
